Our Safety Goals and Objectives

Maintaining a safe environment is the underlying goal of CANA’s culture and organization. All employees are actively involved in the Journey to Zero program that affirms all incidents as preventable and asks all employees to be accountable for safe performance. This dedication has led us to have a construction safety record that is significantly better than industry average.

CANA is pro-active in our site planning and provides safety tools that help to safeguard site users and protect adjacent properties. Our comprehensive safety manual and program include policies and procedures required in order to properly train workers, mitigate hazards and provide efficient site management. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that our employees and trades return home safe at the end of the day.

CANA follows a strict safety program on site to reduce risk and maximize performance. All visitors are required to complete orientations to become accustomed with the site safety culture, specific hazards and detailed safety plans.

How We Maintain a Sterling Safety Record and Promote Site Safety

  • Proven systems – CANA has a comprehensive manual system including policies, procedures and safety guidelines for work performance that comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OH & S) and the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA).
  • Full time safety division observation and involvement – CANA’s dedicated safety division is actively involved in the development and implementation of site-wide safety plans and practices, and regularly audit our sites.
  • A continuous improvement program – CANA has an electronic site-wide and organization-wide notification system which advises all staff of any incidents in order to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Statistic tracking and performance monitoring – CANA’s safety team tracks and reports on performance and areas for improvement. We follow a behavior based safety incentive program where staff performance is measured and positive outcomes are regularly rewarded.
