In February 2007, CANA began the renovations on the Holy Cross Centre on behalf of the Alberta Cancer Board. The renovation was done to accommodate the Cancer Board’s growing space requirements that could not be met solely at the existing Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Three minor projects were undertaken at the Holy Cross Centre including renovations to the Pharmacy, Human Resources Offices and Alberta Cancer Foundation Offices.
In preparation for the major construction which included 60,000 ft2 of renovations on levels two, three and four of the wing originally constructed in 1967, CANA undertook asbestos abatement and phased the demolition to reduce impact.
Phase I of this major project included the addition of 18 exam rooms on the second level, four washroom groups and all perimeter walls on levels two, three and four. Phase II included the completion of the remainder of space with offices and meeting rooms.
