The 8000 Block of the Copperwood Condominiums in south west Calgary is a four-storey multi-family complex, which was struck by lightning in late August 2011. The lightning strike resulted in significant fire, smoke and water damage throughout the building.
After deliberating with the consultants, owners and insurance providers, it was determined that due to mold and structural concerns, the best course of action would be to fully demolish and replace the building.
The re-constructed building features 25 suites ranging from 750 ft2 to 1250 ft2, as well as a single storey underground parkade. CANA utilized a combination of pre-engineered wall panels and stick-built frame assemblies to construct the condominium, in addition to the use of wood truss roof assemblies. The pre-engineered wall panels reduced the overall framing period by 30 per cent.
The project was completed on schedule and under budget.
