Sprawling in size, the 500,000 ft2 Markin MacPhail Athletic and Ice Complex is one of the best high-performance training facilities in North America. The facility features three NHL-sized ice surfaces and one international sized ice surface, a five-storey office tower, several multi-purpose spaces and banquet facilities, a high performance training centre with a full gym and running track, retail and food services. The site is also the home to Hockey Canada and WinSport Canada, and the head offices of close to 20 national and provincial winter sports organizations.
In the role of a Construction Manager, CANA was able to decrease the project cost by over $30M through effective constructability solutions, tendering strategies, as well as strategic phasing plans.
The Athletic and Ice Complex has made a bold statement, which symbolizes Canada’s commitment to sport, athletes and to the importance of healthy and active lifestyles for all Canadians. There was no better example of this than our nation’s performance in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
