The East Village re-vitalization involves renovating the remaining historic buildings in the area; bringing the East Village back to its former grandeur as an urban centre in Calgary.
CANA was recently awarded the St. Louis Hotel Tenant Improvement project by Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) and Nyhoff Architecture. The project involves fit-out of two floors in the historic hotel, which will be completed concurrently with the base-building construction (also by CANA). The completed space will be occupied by CMLC, who will relocate from the adjacent Hiller Block. Project completion is anticipated for June 2016.
For the St. Louis Hotel restoration, the building underwent an analysis to determine the best strategy to reinforce the structure for commercial use. Ultimately the scope of work involved upgrading the structure, the roof, adding new stairs and an elevator. Many of the original materials were restored including some of the exterior façade, windows and masonry.
