CANA completed the West LRT Fixed Facilities project under a joint venture Design-Build contract with SNC Lavalin. The contract was comprised of six new stations, nine traction power substations, two utility buildings and a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) office building at Westbrook Station on the West LRT line. Construction commenced in early 2010 and was completed in late 2012.
The West LRT was the first Design-Build LRT project in Calgary, making it truly unique to the city. In addition to the delivery method, this project has also provided the City with its first underground and elevated train stations.
The West LRT is instrumental in expanding LRT services for Calgary and serves over 100,000 Calgarians.
